Episode 4 brings to you Aruna Chakravarti, an academic, creative writer and translator, with fifteen published books to her credit. These include four novels, a book of short stories, two academic works and eight translations. She was also the Principal of a prestigious women’s college in Delhi University.
Aruna Chakravarti’s first novel, The Inheritors (Penguin), was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize. Her third book, Jorasanko (Harper Collins), received critical acclaim and became a best seller. Her translated works include an anthology of songs from Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitabitaan, Saratchandra Chattopadhyay’s Srikanta and Sunil Gangopadhyay’s Those days, First Light and Primal Woman: Stories. Her novel Daughters of Jorasanko, a sequel to Jorasanko, has sold widely with excellent reviews. Her latest work, a novel titled Suralakshmi Villa (Pan Macmillan Ltd/Picador imprint), has been proclaimed 'Indian Novel of the Year 2020’, by The Journal of Commonwealth Literature, U.K.
She has received many distinguished awards, including the Vaitalik Award, Sahitya Akademi Award and Sarat Puraskar. Aruna Chakravarti is also a script writer and producer of seven multi-media presentations based on her novels. Her programmes are widely acclaimed and have been staged in India and abroad.
