Shurer Aagun

Past
Event

SHURER AAGUN was an integral part of our Golden Jubilee celebrations, and we were delighted to once again be performing in Kolkata during our 50th anniversary, as we paid homage to Tagore, in the very city of his birth.

We were privileged to commence our performance with solo recitals by leading Rabindra Sangeet exponents Smt Pramita Mallick & Smt Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta – both of whom have staged their debut London performances at the invitation of The Tagoreans; have collaborated with us in previous programmes, both in London and in Kolkata; and remain true friends and well wishers of the organisation.

The concluding part of the evening’s performance JAAGAAO SHUDHAROBEY was a unique musical extravaganza, first staged by The Tagoreans in London in 2014, based on selected Tagore songs and dances on the awakening of divine nature and that of the human soul. Whether it be the physical act of awakening from slumber to a new dawn, the stirrings of awakening we see manifested in nature all around us, the awakening of our inner consciousness, or the collective awakening of a sense of national identity and pride – Tagore was fascinated by the concept of new awakenings and new beginnings – as they personified hope, inspiration and encouragement, and a journey from ignorance to realisation, which is the central theme of this presentation. The programme featured members from the UK based team of The Tagoreans who collaborated with Smt Jayati Ghosh and Dr Arkadev Bhattacharya and their teams of singers and dancers to make the evening's performance a resounding success.
